When explaining the new campaign, Derek Forgie, Founder of HSSE, said that: “The overall goal of the campaign is to show that there are enthusiasts, there are allies and supporters all over the place of various shapes and sizes, and we also want to show that coming out can be a very liberating and empowering act.”
Kim Crosby, Co-founder of The People Project explained that coming out can: “also be very difficult and something that’s an entirely personal act, so if this October the 11th isn’t the right time for you, that’s completely OK. Our visibility is important, but not at your expense.”
“We understand that some people live in climates [where] it’s not really safe to come out, and the truth of the matter is it’s your life and it’s your decision to share it with whoever you want to on whatever terms that feel safest and hottest.”
Derek Forgie also said: “Bottom line is – no matter what your relationship is with the proverbial closet, we just want you to know that there are countless allies and supporters all over the place who are ready for you to show you support, love and respect when that time comes and when that time feels right for you. They are even willing to disrobe for you to show that they mean business.”
Kim Crosby confirmed: “In short, we got you! Happy National Coming Out Day!”
