Finding LGBT friendly colleges can sometimes be hard. This is why Campus Pride have launched a vital tool to help get the best for lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender college students. The resource is called the LGBT friendly campus index. The US index includes a listing of national LGBT friendly colleges and universities.

Shane Windmeyer, Cofounder and Executive Director of Campus Pride said: “Campus Pride’s Index is the only one of its kind.”

The index is an electronic resource hosted on the Campus Pride website and it is just one of Campus Pride’s resources designed to help deliver their vision of campuses and a society free of anti-LGBT prejudice, bigotry and hate.

Campus Pride explains that unlike other national LGBT-friendliness rankings for colleges and universities, Campus Pride’s index takes into account answers by students, faculty and staff to highly detailed, comprehensive questions assessing LGBT-friendly policies, programs and practices.

Windmeyer continued: “Unlike other commercially-driven rankings, our ratings are done for and by LGBT people and set in a foundation of solid research practice. The Campus Pride Index is the most reliable, trusted source for ratings on LGBT-friendly campuses.”

The LGBT friendly colleges guide helps assist the life of many LGBT students through providing a way to measure the climate of the college and how LGBT friendly the college really is.

Similarly, to Stonewall’s Best University Guide, the LGBT friendly colleges online tool was produced in response to the increasing demand for resources to support campuses in assessing LGBT-Friendly policies, programs and practices.

The LGBT friendly colleges index can be accessed via the Campus Pride website. It is supported by the Q Research Institute for Higher Education and an advisory board of national LGBT researchers.

Campus Pride, founded in 2001, works to develop student leaders, campus networks and future actions to create such positive change. Campus Pride serves LGBT and ally student leaders and campus organizations in the areas of leadership development, support programs and services to create safer, more inclusive LGBT-friendly colleges and universities. At the time this article was published, Campus Pride represents the only national nonprofit 501(c)(3) organization for student leaders and campus groups working to create a safer college environment for LGBT students.
